    WSDOT’s Multimodal Planning and Data Division is seeking a self-motivated GIS professional to lead the growing Transportation GIS Data team in the GIS & Roadway Data Office as we modernize our data management processes and systems. This position serves as the Transportation GIS Data Team Supervisor and as the department’s expert in the development and maintenance of the agency’s authoritative Linear Referencing System (LRS) and over 20 related statewide geographic data sets for transportation planning. This position plays a key leadership role in the work to migrate our roadway data from a mainframe data system to a GIS-based platform. The GIS data delivered by this team are essential to supporting WSDOT internal business needs and meeting federal reporting requirements under the Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) and the Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE) programs. This data is necessary to support numerous systems and business processes, such as safety analysis, project delivery in Planning, Program Management, Project Development, and Maintenance.

    Under the direction of the GIS Manager, the GIS Technician works as part of a team to support the GIS needs of all tribal departments. The GIS Technician's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, custom map production, geospatial analysis, spatial data collection and management, geodatabase dataset design and web mapping application development.

    • Meet with tribal government staff to define GIS project requirements.
    • Produce custom digital and hard copy maps in support of tribal government priorities.
    • Create web maps and applications for use by tribal government staff and tribal members.

    • Create and maintain spatial data, including dataset design and metadata documentation.
    • Perform geospatial analysis and produce reports, spreadsheets and related GIS products.

    • Present GIS projects, workflows and results to internal and external audiences.
    • Protect the safety, integrity and privacy of the Tribe's spatial data.
    • Develop working relationships with regional GIS peers, including staff at tribal, federal, state and local governments.
    • Keep up with rapidly changing GIS technology by reading industry blogs, websites, white papers and attending webinars, trainings, conferences, user group meetings, etc.
    • Perform other related functions in support of the GIS program and other duties as assigned.
